  • GENERAL

    1. What is Streema?
It's a site to tune into all your favorite radios, directly from your browser, with no download required. It's also a place to share your favorite radios with your friends and discover hidden gems within the thousands of radios that are currently available on the Internet. And the best part is that it's free!

    2. Who are you and why do you do this?
We're just a bunch of guys that love listening to radio and needed a website that could serve primarily as a simple radio tuner. We also think that radios give us a unique way to discover new music. = )

    3. How do I listen to a radio station on my Temporary Playlist or my Favorites?
Just click on the radio station name (example: ORS Radio 90s Top Hits | Web). This will launch the stream and play it through the embedded player on our page.

    4. If I leave Streema without registering, what happens to my Temporary Playlist?
It disappears! So don't forget to register in order to save your playlist.

    5. How do I request a new radio?
You may not find all of your favorite radios within our radio directory; so if there is anything missing, just click on the "Request a Radio" link within the blue horizontal bar. You will be taken to the Radio Request page, where you can provide us with the Radio Name, Homepage (URL), and other useful information. We'll add that radio as soon as we can!

    6. Why do you use reCaptcha?
Aside from wanting to know if you're human, we're also committed to helping digitize books.

    STREEMA ON FACEBOOK

    7. I see you guys have an application on Facebook. Very cool! How does that work?
We're incredibly excited about being on Facebook! For those who have an account on Facebook, you can add our new app here - remember, if you want to sync your accounts, you will have to do it from our Facebook app. This will give our community of users yet another avenue to listen to their favorite radios.

    8. What exactly is synced between my Streema account and the Streema Facebook application?
For now, the only part that is synced between the two are your Favorites list and the radios you've been listening to - although for this last one, our site shows the information in a different way than our Facebook application does. We're looking into ways to sync other parts of the Streema experience - such as the private messages and the radio recommendations - but that will all depend on what Facebook will allow us to do. We'll definitely keep you posted!

    9. How can I cancel the synching between both accounts?
You will have to go to our application in Facebook and do it from there.

    OUR SITE AFTER YOU'VE REGISTERED

    10. What's the Friends list for?
Once you add a friend who is also using Streema, you will see how easy it is to tune in and check out what your friend is listening to. If you click on your friend's username, you'll be able to see what your friend has on their Favorites as well as who's on their friend list. You can look for people you know by browsing your friend's own friends lists or by using the search box on the bottom side of your Friends list. Also, feel free to invite friends who are currently not using Streema via the Invite section of the Home tab.

    11. How private can I keep my Favorites and the radio that I'm currently listening to?
As private as you would like! Go to My Account and there you will be able to set the privacy level you feel comfortable with.

    12. I clicked on someone's username and nothing happens. What's going on?
Most likely, that user has their privacy level set in a way to keep their 'spot' private.

    13. What are Private Messages and how do I use them?
In order to allow users to recommend radios to their friends and send short messages to them, we've created the Private Messages. You can find this in the Home > Messages section of our site. All you need to do is to choose the friend you want to send the message to, pick a radio station if you'd like to recommend one, and write a short message. That's it!

    14. What is the Silent Login checkbox for?
If you have specified a Default Radio (My Account section), then this checkbox makes sure you login in silent mode - i.e. no radio will be automatically turned on as soon as you log in. Very handy when you're in the office and still scrambling to find the headphones!

    15. This application absolutely ROCKS! How can I help spread the word?
If you want to invite your friends through our site, there's an Invite section under the Home tab. We're also working on other methods to share Streema with your friends, such as badges and widgets. Thank you for telling the world about our site. = )

    16. I sent an invite and my friend never received it. What can I do?
Ask your friend to please check their junk or bulk mail folder. While SPAM filters are a great invention, they're definitely not perfect!!

    THE BORING TECHNICAL ISSUES

    17. What do I need in order to use Streema?
First, you need to have Windows Media Player version 9.0 or above installed on your computer - however, we recommend Windows Media Player 11. You also need Real Player installed for certain radios that only stream with Real Audio. For now, our application is optimized for Internet Explorer 6.x and 7.0, although future versions should work perfectly well for other browsers such as Firefox and Safari. You should also have at least a 56k Internet connection, but a broadband connection will give you the best results.

    18. I can't see the Player on the top right of the page. What can I do?
First, make sure you have both Windows Media Player and Real Player installed (see FAQ #17). If you're a PC user with the Firefox browser instead of Internet Explorer, you might have to download the recently developed Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin. If you're a Mac user and don't want to install Windows Media Player, you can try downloading Windows Media Components for Quicktime (by Flip4Mac), although it's not our recommended solution since it may not work on all Macs.

    19. What if I don't want to download Windows Media Player and Real Player?
Here's a solution for Firefox and Opera users who don't want to download WMP or Real Player: you can use MPlayer or VLC and combine it with the MediaPlayerConnectivity add-on. Note: it has been reported that MediaPlayerConnectivity may not work well with Firefox 3.

    20. I have a Mac and some radios simply don't work. What's going on?
Believe us when we tell you that we feel the pain! Unfortunately, there are some radio streams that simply don't work with either the Mac version of Windows Media Player or even with Flip4Mac. The same thing happens with other platforms such as Linux. In order to alert you which streams won't work with your platform, our system will shade the play buttons in gray if they are not compatible.

    21. Why does the stream keep buffering?
There are many radios that stream at a very high quality, which is great when you have a broadband connection - but not so great when you are using dialup! You'll also notice that many radios take a long time to load (even up to two minutes!) even if you have a broadband connection. That's unfortunately something that is unrelated to Streema. If you have a Mac, or are using another OS, there are additional reasons why this might be happening. (See FAQ #20)

    22. A radio isn't working very well and I want to let you guys know about it.
There is a very simple way to alert us about radio streams that are having problems: click on the link that says "Problems with this Radio Station? Report it!" , which is located under the media player on the top right of our page, and then confirm that you want to report that particular station. That's it! We use this data now to investigate if the stream has changed and we intend to use it in the future to show radio performance.
